Ruben Markosyan

    Ruben Markosyan studied at the Republic of Armenia National Academy of Sciences from 1996-1999 as a PhD candidate, finally earning his PhD in 2002 in the field of Technical Sciences. From 1998-2001 he was the President of the Yerevan State University (YSU) Student Scientific Society. From 1999-2009 he worked as a researcher at the Microbiology Institute of the RA National Academy of Sciences.

   From 2005-2008 he was the head of the Department of International Cooperation and Public Relations at RA Social Insurance State Foundation. From 2004-2005 he worked as the head of the Department of Foreign Relations at the Pan-Armenian International Youth Center Foundation. In 2008-2009 he worked at the RA Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs in the state social security service as the head of the Department of International Cooperation and Public Relations.

   In 2009,  Markosyan began working as the Vice-Rector of Students, Alumni and Public Relations, a position he continues to hold. He teaches in the YSU Chair of Public Administration. From 2012 until now he is the Assistant to the Chair of the YSU Department of Public Administration.

  For five years he has worked in the sphere of social security, participating in reform projects and supporting implementation of projects by international organizations such as USAID and World Bank. He has been actively involved in the works of the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and those of international associations of pension and social funds. From 2005-2009 he represented the RA Social Insurance State Foundation in those associations.

 Now,  Markosyan teaches “RA Systems of Social Services” to Masters students at the YSU Department of Public Administration in the Faculty of International Relations.

Artur Mkrtichyan

   From 1983-1990 Artur Mkrtichyan studied in the Yerevan State University (YSU) Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology. From 1990-1993 he was a PhD candidate, and in 1994 earned his Diploma as a Candidate of Philosophy in Philosophical Sciences. In 2008, he earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophical Sciences.

Since 2011 he has been a professor of sociology and a member of the 013 board of the Supreme Certifying Commission at YSU. From 1997-1998 and 2001-2002 he worked as an observer at the German Bielefeld University and the Berlin Humboldt University.

He has lead various scientific research programs and has rich experience leading trainings and working as an expert to pass on his knowledge and skills.

 Mkrtichyan is the Dean of the YSU Faculty of Sociology. Within the Faculty, he leads various projects implemented through international cooperation. He has participated in numerous international conferences and workshops in RA, USA, Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Russia and more.

Artak Khachatryan

   Artak Khachatryan graduated from Yerevan State University (YSU) Faculty of Philosophy in 1979. Since 1980 he has taught at YSU and is a candidate of Philosophical Sciences and docent. In 1991-1992  Khachatryan underwent a 6-month training at the London School of Economics in the Faculties of Social Work and Administration. At the same time, he was training social workers to become specialists in their field.

Since 1993,  Khachatryan has actively participated in reforms of the sphere of Social Security in RA by implementing trainings for social workers and preparing educational and supplementary materials. As an expert he has participated in various projects conducted by international and local organizations whose goal was the development of RA social services. Through such work  Khachatryan has played a large role in the advancement of the social work element of RA criminal justice and child protections syste

By participating in four Tempus projects from 1996 to 2013,  A. Khachatryan has contributed to social work education in RA. During that time, educational standards for the profession of social work were created and introduced, projects were completed by all Bachelor’s and Master's students and a Distance Learning system for social work was established.

Since 2005  A.Khachatryan has been the Chair of Social Work and Social Technologies at YSU. He is the author of about 50 published works and is a Board Member of the Armenian Association of Social Workers.

Syuzanna Juharyan

   Suzanna Juharyan studied Sociology, Psychology and Philosophy in the Sociology Department of Yerevan State University (YSU) from 1992-1997, and received her diploma as a sociology specialist.

Ms. Juharyan aimed to receive a graduate education in social work, which at that time was not possible in Armenia. Thus, from 1999 to 2000 she continued her education in a Russian-British University in Moscow. From there, she graduated with a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences from Manchester University and a diploma in Social Work and Social Work Training from the Moscow School for Social and Economic Sciences.

Ms. Juharyan’s first professional experience during her student years was as a social researcher, participating in various projects as a telephone consultant at “Trust” call center. At the same time, she was a researcher for various RA socio-economic and socio-political studies.

In 2000, having earned her Master’s degree, she returned to Armenia and began working as a lecturer at YSU Chair of Social Work and Social Technologies. Ms. Juharyan’s topical scientific interests include the history of social work development, theory of social work, social work in healthcare and health systems, the roles and functions of social workers in society, application of case management practices and development of integrated social services.

Throughout her teaching career she has been the author of many professional references, has created her own subjects of study and has published associated lecture manuals. Among her published materials are the topics of valeological behavior and HIV infection, social case studies, international social work and more.

 Juharyan has participated in the creation of projects dedicated to socio-political reforms, in particular within the social security sphere. She has also participated in trainings of specialists in the role of researcher, consultant and trainer.

One of Ms. Juharyan’s most significant projects was “Social Worker—2013; Training Project”, in which as an expert, she carried out the 1-year training project for state social agency workers in RA. In 2011-2012 she was a member of the team of experts for the project, “Creation of a united package of social services for RA social security sphere and carrying out a structural-functional model within the integrated social services system”. In 2014 she was the Executive Director and leader of the specialist team at “Nakashian Children's Home” Social Support Center, where she organized and led psychosocial, educational and nurturing projects.

Now, she is the Vice President of the Armenian Association of Social Workers.

Astghik Minasyan1

   Astghik Minasyan has, since 1987, been an active employee of the RA Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. Until she began working at the ministry, her profession was a medical doctor, and she worked for four years as a psychologist.

Until she became the head of the social support department Ms. Minasyan was the director of Nor Kharberd orphanage. She is an expert in social support policy creation and is the author of many scientific articles.

Manane Petrosyan

Ms. Petrosyan is a social policy and human rights specialist with extensive leadership and analytical skills in social work, human rights advocacy, protection and welfare, policy development, and social research. She has acted as a team leader, program coordinator and program manager with both national and international organizations in collaboration with various state and non-state structures. Ms. Petrosyan’s last 10 years of work experience are strongly connected to civil society’s role in social change, policy and strategy development, and the evaluation of programs to meet the needs of vulnerable populations. She has managed over 11 projects funded by the European Union, Open Society Institute, OSCE, Fund for Armenian Relief, UNICEF, Penal Reform International and World Bank.

Anahit Sahakyan

   Anahit Sahakyan is a Docent at YSU’s Faculty of Sociology, Department of Social Work and Social Technologies, with a Ph.D. in Psychology. Ms. Sahakyan is a deputy dean of YSU’s Faculty of Sociology. Ms. Sahakyan has been working at YSU since 1992 and has an extensive background in sociological and psychological pedagogy.

She is involved in many other projects as a trainer and expert. In particular, Ms. Sahakyan is a trainer of social work specialists for the National Institute of Labor and Social Research, and a trainer of civil servants within YSU’s postgraduate specialized education department.

Ms. Sahakyan is also a coordinator for the “Consulting Center for Pregnant Women”. As an expert, she has cooperated with World Vision Armenia within the project entitled “Preventing abuse against children in Armenia”. Ms. Sahakyan is also a consultant with several NGOs.

She is a project coordinator at “Armenian Democratic Forum” (ADF) NGO, which was founded in the year 2000 and continues to implement various meaningful works. Among those are sociological studies including RA poverty analysis, issues of people with disabilities, inclusive education research and more.

In 2003, with an order from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, ADF implemented the project, “State support to graduates of RA childcare institutions”. From 2002 until today, ADF implements the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) funded project, “Support for Pregnant Women” in Vanadzor, Talin, Yeghvard and Yerevan. Throughout ADF’s existence, the NGO has implemented trainings for staff of childcare institutions and for specialists in the social sphere of RA.

Ms. Sahakyan is an Executive Board Member of AASW.

Nvard Melqonyan

   Nvard Melkonyan graduated from Yerevan State University (YSU) Faculty of Philosophy, Sociology and Psychology with a profession of sociologist in 1997. In 2001 she completed her PhD course at the Philosophy and Rights Institute of the RA National Academy of Sciences. In 2004 she defended and earned her PhD on the topic of “Sociological analysis of the features that form images of political leaders”. Ms. Melkonyan is a candidate and Docent at YSU’s Department of Social Work and Social Technologies.

Since 2001 Ms. Melkonyan has worked at YSU, and since 2007 she has been the head of the Master’s program in Public Relations at YSU’s Faculty of Sociology. She is the co-founder of SPRING PR Company, which opened in 2009. Since 2013 she has been the head of the Academic Center of Information and Public Relations at Yerevan State Linguistic University after V. Brusov. In 2015 she was awarded the YSU gold medal.

As a trainer and expert she has been involved in various projects. In particular, she has led requalification trainings in “Public Relations and Marketing Communications” at the Distance Learning Laboratory of the YSU Faculty of Sociology, and has taken part in projects organized by the USA National Institute for Democracy, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Armenian Association of Marketing of the School of Ethics. Since 2005 she has cooperated with the YSU Post-Graduate Specialized Education Department by providing trainings for civil servants.

Melkonyan has participated in numerous international and local conferences and seminars, including the “State Systems of Social Protection Since Independence” conference in Yerevan (March 2016), “Social Work in Armenia: In Parallel with Reforms” scientific conference (November 2015), and more across Austria, Russia, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan and Hungary. She is the author of numerous scientific articles (more than 40) and professional educational manuals. Melkonyan has been a member of the Armenian PR Association since 2006. She is a Board member of the Armenian Association Social Workers and has been responsible for AASW communications since 2015.

Nune Geghamyan

    Nune Geghamyan, Ph.D in Economics, is a Docent at Yerevan State University Department of Social Work and Social Technologies. She started working at YSU in 2005 and is a co-founder of the Armenian Association of Social Workers. Currently, Geghamyan is a project manager at Nagashyan Children’s Support Center. She has participated in a number of international conferences and seminars taking place in Russia, Ireland and Greece. Geghamyan’s professional interests include social policy, social protection, and the present issues of the social work profession. Geghamyan is also an author and co-author of several auxilliary educational manuals and scientific articles, and is a trainer for international and local projects.

Knarik Garanfilyan

    Knarik Garanfilyan graduated from Yerevan Polytechnic University’s Faculty of Energy in 1979 and received an engineer’s qualification. She worked for Project Yerevan as a designer and later requalified as a social worker by completing YSU’s Social Work distance learning program. K. Garanfilyan also has qualifications and working experience in teaching History of the Armenian Apostolic Church and Christianity.

Since 1990 she has worked at various NGOs as a social worker and later as Project Manager. In 2002 she founded Metsamor Community Center with the sponsorship of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Later she founded “Family and Community” NGO, of which she is the president. K. Garanfilyan has carried out and managed various projects funded by the Tufenkian Charitable Foundation, FH International, AMKOR Armenia, The World Council of Churches Armenia Round Table Foundation (ART) and more.

“Family and Community” NGO implements activities to strengthen families, organizes daycare for children in difficult life situations, works with children in conflict with the law, supports children with behavioral problems and implements projects for community development. Annually the organization serves more than 150 children and 130 families. The NGO has had exceptional success in its activities relating to children in conflict with the law and those with behavioral problems. The organization’s working model enriches the field of social services in RA and has its unique role among national services.

“Family and Community” NGO is also famous for its child and youth puppet theatre, which has been active since 2003 and has given many charitable performances across Armenia, with special attention to border villages and child protection institutions. Since 2005 the theatre group has participated in the RA Ministry of Culture’s annual Pan-Armenian Festival and has won various awards and certificates.

K. Garanfilyan received a certificate from the regional governor of Armavir marz for “Contribution to RA Armavir marz socio-economic development”. She is the President of the Metsamor Committee on Guardianship and Trusteeship. She is actively involved in national legislative reforms and in creation of strategic plans and concepts.

Garanfilyan is a Board member of the Armenian Child Protection Network and a Board member of the Armenian Association of Social Workers.

Armine Andranikyan

   Armine Andranikyan studied at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics of Yerevan State University (YSU) from 1980-1985 and received the qualification of mathematician. During her study in 1982-84 she also graduated from the Faculty of Humanitarian Professions with a specialization in social psychology.

From 1985-88 she studied at National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia. In 1993 she defended and earned her PhD in physical and mathematical sciences from Council of Science of the National Academy of Sciences of RA (Institution of Problematics in Informatics and Automatics of National Academy of Sciences).

She is an author of many scientific articles and the co-author of scientific collections. Since 1989 she has worked as an engineer in the National Academy of Sciences and in Institution of Problematics in Informatics and Automatics of YSU. Since 1996 she has worked in the Nor-Nork district territorial department of social support in Yerevan as the department head’s Deputy. From 2005-2015 she was a lecturer in Social Work classes of the Distance Learning Laboratory of YSU on “Human Rights and Social Work”.

As a trainer, Andranikyan has been engaged in a range of programmes including “Social servant—2003” training project as a lecturer, and in the framework of that project was a member of the editorial committee that published the “Social case collection”. In 2008 she was involved in the training project “Social Security System and Services Provided to the Population” implemented by the National Institute of Labour and Social Research and in 2011 was involved in the training project “The role of social support systems in overcoming poverty”. In 2013-2014 she was involved in the project directed at community servants “Improving the social protection system in Armenia by addressing problems”, and in 2015-2016 she was involved in a training project for professionals in the social sphere carried out by the National Institute of Labour and Social Research.

Andranikyan has participated in seminars, conferences and symposiums, where she has presented reports on the model of cooperation with the police in cases of domestic violence, and capacity building projects. During her practice she has taken steps to reveal general systematic problems, made suggestions and taken part in programmes aimed at developing the social security system.

Andranikyan is a Board member of the Armenian Association of Social Workers.

Marine Yarmaloyan

  Marine Yarmaloyan is a lecturer at YSU Department of Social Work and Social Technologies, where she has been working since 2007. She has a Master’s degree in Social Work. From 2007-2008 she worked at the Armenian Foundation for Mental Health’s Daycare Center as a social worker. Currently, M. Yarmaloyan is a candidate for YSU’s Department of Social Work and Social Technologies. She is also responsible for online courses with USA’s Connecticut University School of Social Work. Her professional interests include mental health, social rights, social policy and social protection, as well as research on women’s unpaid work. She has authored several scientific articles on formation of foster care insitutions in the USA and Great Britain, adoption, the characteristics of organizing and implementing distance learning programs, issues of women’s unpaid work, the definition of “social protection of the population”, and more. She has participated in various local and international conferences and trainings. M. Yarmaloyan has conducted several programs as a trainer and an expert.

In June 2011 she was a temporary expert for the “Creation of a united package of social services for RA social security sphere and carrying out a structural-functional model within the integrated social services system” project. In February-March 2016 she was involved in the “Strengthening the Capacity of Case Managers” project as an expert consultant.

M. Yarmaloyan is an Executive Board Member of AASW.

Evgine Vardanyan

   Yevgine Vardanyan is a lecturer at YSU Department of Social Work and Social Technologies. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work in 2005 and a Master’s degree in Social Work in 2007 from YSU. Since 2008 Y. Vardanyan has been working as a lecturer at YSU’s Department of Social Work and Social Technologies. She is also a Ph.D. candidate in the same department. Since 2010 she has been actively involved in numerous international educational projects whose goal is the development of educational projects.

From 2010 to 2013 she was the YSU program administrator for the Master’s program in Public Health and Social Services. Her professional interests include social work within the justice system and the role of regional governance in social protection. Y. Vardanyan has authored several scientific articles published in both local and international journals. She is an Executive Board Member of the Armenian Association of Social Workers. 

Vardanyan is involved in many activities outside of the university, in particular as an expert consultant for projects of the World Bank, UNICEF, World Vision. She has also cooperated with the RA Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development.

In collaboration with Arizona State University (ASU) and YSU Center for Gender and Leadership Studies, she implemented in 2015 sociological research entitled, “Social and health issues of elderly women in villages of RA and direct social and health services to solve those issues”. The study’s final report was published by the official webpages of both YSU and ASU.

Y. Vardanyan is the author of numerous scientific articles, which have been published in local and international journals. She has participated in many scientific conferences, seminars, roundtables and events held not only in Armenia but also in USA, Great Britain, Romania, Austria and more.

Her professional interests include social work in the justice system, local self-governance and the role of local government bodies in the sphere of social security, social policy and social administration.

Vardanyan is a Board member of the Armenian Association of Social Workers.
